C.H. Robinson Worldwide Acquires Transera International

C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., one of the largest 3PL’s, announced in late August it has acquired certain operating subsidiaries of Transera International Holdings Ltd., one of the largest privately owned project forwarders in North America. Terms were not disclosed.

Classic Build vs. Buy
While C.H. Robinson is already regarded as one of the best 3PL’s of multimodal transportation and logistics services, they realized a growing demand amongst their customers requesting services of over-dimensional, overweight cargoes.

The classic Buy vs. build dilemma, faced here, is very common. But in many cases a merger or acquisition is less capital intensive and time consuming then building new services organically.

Aside from the Transera’s added services, they have several appealing qualities that made the merger attractive. Transera will add 107 employees and 8 global officers to C.H. Robinson’s current footprint that spans 221 offices. Additionally,

Transera’s brand recognition, extensive customer base, and strong track record of growth made them an ideal fit for C.H. Robinson.
